Raipur, July 24 (IANS) Various factions in the Chhattisgarh unit of the Congress party got together Thursday to start identifying potential candidates for the assembly poll scheduled this November, with the party feeling rejuvenated by the victory of the central government in Tuesday’s trust vote. The party’s state unit president Dhanendra Sahu, leader of the opposition in the assembly Mahendra Karma and both the working presidents - Satyanarayan Sharma and Charandas Mahant - began their first-ever joint tour of the state Thursday to identify potential candidates for the assembly polls.

“The trust win has definitely lifted the morale of the party cadre at a time when we are gearing up for the November assembly polls,” Sharma said.

“The party, which is divided into various groups and sub-groups in Chhattisgarh, has got a major boost. This is the first moment of joy for the party workers since the party lost to the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) in December 2003,” a party leader told IANS.

Leaders of the state’s ruling BJP are however confident that the Congress will not be able to gain from the trust vote victory because the BJP’s state unit is united - none of its nine MPs from Chhattisgarh went against the party whip in the trust vote.
