TRS to move no-confidence motion in Andhra assembly

Hyderabad, Feb 11 (IANS) The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) Friday decided to move a no-confidence motion against the Congress government in Andhra Pradesh during the budget session of the state assembly, beginning Feb 17.TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao said the TRS legislature party took the decision to table the motion and challenged the main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to support it.
Reacting sharply to statements by TDP leaders that TRS is a branch office of the Congress, Rao said the no-confidence motion will prove “who is branch of Congress”.
“TDP, which has colluded with Congress, is not coming forward with no-trust motion despite being in a position to do so. If they (TDP) have sincerity and the guts, let them support our motion. This will expose them,” the TRS chief told reporters.
KCR, as Rao is popularly known, claimed that his party has the requisite strength to move the no-confidence motion. “Even one member is enough to move it,” he said.
The MP said the TDP leaders, who failed to make their party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu write a letter to the Srikrishna Committee supporting the demand for separate statehood to Telangana, were terming TRS as branch office of the ruling party.
After the recent merger of Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) with Congress, some TDP leaders from Telangana had predicted that TRS would also merge with Congress and even termed it as a branch of the ruling party.
TRS has 11 legislators in the 294-member assembly while TDP has 90 members.
The no-trust motion will be significant as the camp of former MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy claims to have support of two dozen Congress legislators.
However, the ruling party is confident of defeating the no-trust motion as PRP, which has 18 legislators, merged with it last week. It is also sure of getting support from the seven-member Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM).
Before PRP’s merger, Congress had 155 legislators.
