- Hyderabad, Oct 21 (IANS) Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao Wednesday warned of a “civil war” if the government failed to stop implementation of Supreme Court order declaring Hyderabad a free zone for the matter of recruitment to police department.
The Supreme Court last week had delivered a judgment declaring Hyderabad a free zone in police recruitment, meaning that people of Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions can also be recruited in Hyderabad.
Addressing a massive public meeting at Siddipet in Medak district Wednesday evening, he demanded that the central government bring amendments to the constitution of India to overturn the Supreme Court order.
“If the state and central governments fail to take steps for bringing constitutional amendment, they will be responsible for a civil war which they are provoking. This is my warning,” he said while launching the movement against the court order.
The TRS, other Telangana groups and employees’ unions from the region say that the apex court order will deny jobs to locals and that the verdict violates the spirit of several constitutional safeguards provided to the region in matters of employment.
KCR, the initials by which the TRS chief is popularly known, said the state government’s decision to file a review petition in the Supreme Court was a conspiracy to put the issue in cold storage.
He demanded that the government convene assembly session to pass a resolution urging the central government to bring constitutional amendment.
Adopting aggressive tone, he gave slogan of ‘Jago Telangana waley, bhago Andhra waley’ (Wake up people of Telangana, run away people of Andhra).
“We know how to make Hyderabad a free zone by driving you (people of Andhra) out not just from Hyderabad but also other parts of the region. Don’t treat it as a joke otherwise you will become a joke,” said the former central minister.
The MP from Mahbubnagar also announced that the party and the employees of Telangana would launch “jail bharo” agitation by courting arrests. “The employees will paralyse the administration by launching non-cooperation movement,” he said.
“We acted with utmost restraint for last 10 years. Don’t test our patience by once again doing injustice to the region,” he said.
Swami Agnivesh also addressed the meeting backing the demand of TRS for separate statehood to Telangana region, which comprises 10 districts including Hyderabad.
