Hyderabad, Dec 10 (IANS) The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) late Wednesday welcomed the decision of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government to initiate the process of forming a separate state of Telangana by moving a resolution in the Andhra Pradesh assembly.
TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao, who is on fast for 11 days demanding the separate state, will call off the fast, said party leader Vinod Kumar.
Soon after Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram made an announcement in Delhi, the TRS leaders went into a huddle.
“It is a step in right direction. We welcome it,” said Chandrasekhara Rao’s son and legislator K. Tarakarama Rao.
Since Chidambaram did not provide details, the TRS leaders are waiting for Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, who is likely to visit the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) personally to convey the decision to KCR, as Chandrasekhara Rao is popularly known, and request him to call off the fast.
TRS leaders expect Rosaiah to provide details like when the resolution would be moved in the assembly.
KCR’s son said he hoped the Congress party would not only move the resolution but take it to the logical conclusion.
“We hope to see a clear road map for formation of Telangana state,” he said.
