Agartala, Oct 30 (IANS) The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) led Left Front government in Tripura tops among the Indian states in various sectors, a party spokesman asserted here Saturday.
“Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has also said recently at a conference in New Delhi that Tripura is one of the best governed states in India,” the spokesman told reporters.
The CPI-M leader, quoting central government documents, said Tripura has achieved leading ranks in implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act and providing ownership rights of forest land to tribal people.
“Terrorism has been contained by 92-95 percent in the northeastern state. But there are some militancy problems,” the spokesman said.
“As a precautionary measure, the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has been enforced in some parts of the state,” he added.
AFSPA, a controversial anti-terror law enacted 52 years ago, gives sweeping powers to the security forces deployed in the northeastern region and Jammu and Kashmir to curb terrorism.
