Kolkata, March 21 (IANS) The Trinamool Congress Monday promised in its election manifesto that if voted to power in the April-May West Bengal assembly elections, it will take effective steps within 100 days to bring back peace in the state’s Darjeeling hills.
“Trinamool Congress does not want division of Bengal. In order to build cordial relationship between the residents of hills and plains we would take effective steps within 100 days of government formation to bring back peace and tranquillity,” said the manifesto for next month’s assembly elections released by party chief Mamata Banerjee.
The hilly area of Darjeeling district witnessed violence for last two years after the Gorkhaland movement spearheaded by the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) became intense.
“Trinamool Congress doesn’t believe in the atrocities that are being carried out in the name of joint forces operation. Only developmental work and human face can bring back peace in the area and solve the problem,” said the manifesto.
