Trinamool not to support Feb 28 industrial strike

Mamata Banerjee Kolkata, Dec 22 (IANS) Dubbing the February 28 all-India industrial strike called by central trade unions as a “routine shutdown”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday said her Trinamool Congress will not support it.

“We morally do not support industrial strikes. The CPI-M (Communist Party of India-Marxist) had called so many strikes and sit-in agitations in its 35-year rule in the state. But we have taken a decision that we will not call any strike. The government will work on that day (Feb 28, 2012),” Banerjee said.

“Many industrial units downed shutters in Bengal in the past. Our policy is to do politics while ensuring that the doors of the industries remain open,” she said.

Banerjee said she has already raised her voice against the issues, including price rise of essentials, on which the strike had been called.

“Strikes will not solve any issue. These have become a routine nowadays,” the chief minister said.

Banerjee informed that she urged state Education Minister Bratya Basu to defer by a day the date of class 10 history examination as it coincides with the Feb 28 strike.
