Transgender commerce appointee Washington DC, Jan 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) President Barack Obama has named Amanda Simpson to be a Senior Technical Advisor to the Commerce Department. Amada Simpson is a member of the National Centre for Transgender Equality Board of Directors. She said that, “as one of the first transgender presidential appointees to the federal government, I hope that I will soon be one of hundreds, and that this appointment opens future opportunities for many others.” It seems to be a first of sorts for a transgender to be named as a Commerce appointee.

Amanda Simpson is a former test pilot and she has worked for defense contractor Raytheon for over a decade.

Amanda Simpson was earlier a male and then he changed into a female so she is certainly the best choice for this post. She was quite a key factor in convincing Raytheon to add gender identity and expression to its equal employment opportunity policy. She had also participated in the polls for the Arizona House of Representatives, but she wasn’t successful there. After that she was a delegate for then-Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-NY, to the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
