Kolkata, March 3 (IANS) Popular Bengali film actor Satabdi Roy will contest the Lok Sabha election on a Trinamool Congress ticket from West Bengal’s Bolpur constituency, a party leader said here Tuesday.
“We told our party chief Mamata Banerjee to field Satabdi Roy in the Bolpur Lok Sabha constituency,” Trinamool Congress legislator from Birbhum district Ashis Banerjee said.

Banerjee Monday announced that Roy will contest on the Trinamool ticket in the Lok Sabha elections.

Roy and Trinamool Congress sitting legislator from Kolkata’s Alipur assembly seat Tapas Pal Tuesday came to Banerjee’s south Kolkata residence and had a meeting with senior party leaders.

Sources said Pal, a Bengali film actor-turned-politician, is likely to contest the Lok Sabha election from Krishnanagar constituency against Communist Party of India-Marxist’s woman candidate and athlete-turned politician Jyotirmoyee Sikdar.

“I have no problem to contest from the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency. But I’ll not say anything about my seat. I’ll go by what my party will decide,” Pal said.
