Time to build a temple, forget past acrimony: RSS
September 30th, 2010 - 7:12 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 30 (IANS) The Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) said Thursday’s judicial ruling was a green signal to build a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya and asked all Indians to forget the past bitterness.RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat told reporters here that judgment of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court “clears the way for a Ram temple” in Ayodhya, a temple town about 300 km from here in Uttar Pradesh.
“Everyone should cooperate in building the temple,” he said. “It is time to forget the bitterness and acrimony of the past.”
He also appealed for peace in the country and urged people not to celebrate the verdict in a manner that could hurt the sentiments of any community.
“It is not a question of victory or defeat for anyone,” Mohan Bhagwat said. “It is an opportunity to forge national unity.”
The RSS played a key role in spearheading a mass movement aimed at building a Ram temple at the site where the Babri Masjid stood in Ayodhya. Hindu mobs demolished the mosque Dec 6, 1992, triggering widespread riots and dividing the country on communal lines like never before.
