peter July 17, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The normally punctual Texas Mayor had failed to attend a City Council meeting on Tuesday. This triggered off an alarm and the police had a premonition of something going horribly wrong when they found a key along with an envelope taped to the door of her upscale Dallas home.

Jayne Peters and her 19 year old daughter were found dead within their two storey brick house. The cause of the death was evident as both of them had gun shot wounds on their heads. The investigators believe it to be a murder and suicide pact.

The authorities also discovered more notes from the house. However, the contents of these notes had nothing to do with the deaths and focused entirely to the management of her family affairs including caring for the dogs. This was reported by the Coppell Deputy Police Chief, Steve Thomas. There had been no signs of struggle and the weapon used had been a semi automatic handgun. He added.

The mayor had been a popular figure and her doorstep was crowded with many wreaths, flowers and cards. She and her daughter Corrine had lived along in the house since her husband Donald Peters succumbed to cancer in 2008.

Jayne Peters had been a contract software developer by profession and had also served the city of Coppell as its mayor. She would have continued to serve in her present position until 2012 and had been a member of the council since 1998.
