Texas Governor Perry announces US presidential bid

Washington, Aug 14 (IANS) Texas Governor Rick Perry Saturday announced his intention to run for the office of the US president, Xinhua reported.
At a conservative gathering in Charleston, Perry touted his economic achievements in Texas, which created more than one million jobs in the decade he led the state.
The 51-year-old Republican also directed criticism at President Barack Obama, casting him as a failure of leadership who has diminished the standing of the US and its economic prospects.
