TDP Telangana legislators back million march

Hyderabad, March 8 (IANS) Telangana leaders of the opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Tuesday declared their support to the million march to Hyderabad on March 10 to demand a separate Telangana state.
Though TDP is not part of the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) — the apex body which is organising the march — party leaders from the region have decided to participate in the march and mobilize party cadre for the same.
Telangana TDP Forum convenor Nagam Janardhan Reddy told reporters here that the forum was backing the march as its goal was to achieve a separate state.
After participating in a motorcycle rally organised by Telangana Journalists Forum, Janardhan Reddy said the party legislators had decided to stay away from the assembly till the million march.
A day after TDP’s Telangana legislators squabbled in the assembly, all 37 legislators of the party from Telangana decided to boycott the house at least till March 10.
Earlier, after meeting TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, Janardhan Reddy denied that he was quitting the forum. “I will neither quit the forum nor give up Telangana slogan,” said the former minister, who is also TDP’s deputy leader in the assembly.
Naidu held separate meetings with Janardhan Reddy and other legislators, in an attempt to sort out their differences.
Janardahan Reddy had Monday stalled the proceedings in the assembly while demanding that a bill be tabled in parliament for formation of Telangana. However, other legislators from the region took exception to the manner in which he alone decided to raise the issue. They accused him of trying to blackmail them and portray them as villains.
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other groups fighting for a separate Telangana state backed Janardhan Reddy.
