TDP asks CBI to reopen Paritala Ravi murder case
January 31st, 2011 - 7:35 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, Jan 31 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh’s main opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Monday urged the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to reopen the case relating to the murder of its leader and former minister Paritala Ravi in view of recent “revelations” by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.A delegation of TDP leaders met CBI Deputy Inspector General (DIG) V.V. Lakshminarayana to demand that the agency question Kiran Kumar Reddy for stating that he had “shielded” former Congress MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in the murder case.
The TDP leaders alleged that the son of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy should be questioned again in the case by summoning him to CBI office. “He was earlier questioned by CBI at the chief minister’s office. How can the truth come out if the son of a chief minister is questioned at the CM’s office,” asked TDP general secretary Varla Ramaiah.
He told reporters that they had handed the CBI key evidence to prove Jaganmohan Reddy’s links with Maddelachervu Suri, the prime accused in the murder case.
Suri was gunned down by his close aide Bhanu in Hyderabad on Jan 3.
The TDP leaders alleged that Jagan developed close contacts with Suri through the latter’s henchman Mangali Krishna.
Paritala Ravi, a former minister and a TDP leader, was gunned down in Anantapur town Jan 24, 2005.
Then chief minister Rajasekhara Reddy had ordered CBI probe into the murder following allegations against his son and then state minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy.
The CBI gave them a clean chit saying no direct or indirect evidence was found against them.
While criticising Jaganmohan last week, Kiran Kumar Reddy claimed that he had defended him in the assembly when the opposition made allegations against him in a murder case.
