Tamil Nadu polls: Puthiya Tamizhagam now wants nine seats

Chennai, Feb 19 (IANS) Four days after inking a deal with the AIADMK and accepting to contest two seats in the ensuing assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, the Dalits-backed Puthiya Tamizhagam (PT) Saturday upped its demand to nine seats.At the district secretaries meeting held here, PT officials were of the view that the party should contest for at least nine seats.

Speaking to reporters, PT founder K.Krishnaswamy said the party expected at least nine seats from the AIADMK.

He has appealed to AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa to increase the party’s seat share.

Apart from PT, the AIADMK has inked seat sharing deals with Republican Party of India (RPI) and All India Munvendar Munnani Kazhagam (AIMMK) for one seat each.

The AIADMK also held seat sharing talks with the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and will be holding discussions with the Communist Party of India (CPI) Sunday.
