Tamil Nadu Congress lawmaker Sudarsanam dead (Lead)
June 27th, 2010 - 1:56 pm ICT by IANSChennai, June 27 (IANS) Congress lawmaker D. Sudarsanam died following cardiac arrest Saturday night in Coimbatore, where he was attending the first World Classical Tamil Conference, hospital authorities said Sunday. He was 67.
The Tamil Nadu Congress Legislative Party leader was admitted to the Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital in Coimbatore, some 500 km from here, after he fell seriously ill.
He is survived by three sons. His wife passed away two years ago.
AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalithaa Sunday condoled the death of Sudarsanam and said: “I am deeply saddened by the news of Tamil Nadu Congress Legislative Party leader Sudarsanam’s death.”
Elected from the Poonamallee assembly constituency, Sudarsanam was serving his fourth term as Tamil Nadu assembly member.
Sudarsanam had earlier undergone prostate gland surgery. He was taken to hospital Friday due to heavy bleeding.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid their last respects to Sudarsanam at the hospital.
His body was brought here Sunday morning and the funeral will be held Monday.
