Jammu, April 15 (IANS) Although all 11 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators in Jammu and Kashmir have quit owning “moral responsibility” for the cross voting that enabled the ruling combine to sweep the legislative council elections, there is no word yet from the party’s central leadership on whether the resignations have been accepted or rejected.
Seven of the 11 BJP members of the state assembly voted against the party whip Thursday that resulted in the National Conference-Congress alliance winning five of the six seats at stake in the legislative council. The combine held tehse five seats earlier too.
BJP general secretary J.P. Nadda, after a meeting here, had asked the 11 legislators to quit, and accordingly the lawmakers submitted their resignations to party president Nitin Gadkari.
“We are waiting for the national leadership’s reaction to the resignations. There is no word on it so far,” a BJP legislator told IANS on the condition of anonymity.
BJP sources told IANS that son of a senior party leader was involved in striking a deal between the legislators and the ruling alliance. The BJP leader’s son has wide business interests, the source added.
