Chandigarh, March 9 (IANS) Opposition members of the Haryana assembly Tuesday sought Governor Jagannath Pahadia’s intervention after they were suspended a day earlier for the rest of the budget session.
The opposition is made up of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Akali Dal.

At least 35 opposition leaders, led by INLD chief and former chief minister Om Parkash Chautala, met Pahadia at the Raj Bhawan and submitted a memorandum.

“We apprised the governor about yesterday’s wrong decision of the speaker that was taken on the behest of the Congress. Pahadia … understands the problem,” Chautala told reporters here.

The entire opposition was Monday suspended from the house for the rest of the budget session by Speaker Harmohinder Singh Chatha for disrupting proceedings while demanding a debate on price rise.

The assembly was adjourned thrice in just over one hour Monday. The budget is to be presented in the house Wednesday.

“Pahadia has promised to take action at the earliest,” said Chautala, who was accompanied by senior leaders of the Akali Dal and BJP, along with his two sons Ajay and Abhay Singh.

The ruling Congress has 45 legislators in the house, including five defectors from the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC). It is supported by seven independent legislators and the sole Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) member.

The INLD has 31 legislators in the 90-member assembly and enjoys the support of the lone Akali Dal member. The BJP has four legislators, of whom three were present in the house Monday.

The 12-day budget session commenced March 5 and will end March 16.
