Sunanda watches Tharoor speaking in parliament

Shashi Tharoor New Delhi, March 15 (IANS) Former minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar was among the audience seated in the visitors’ galley Tuesday when he was speaking in the Lok Sabha on India’s foreign policy.

Dressed in spotless white salwar-kameez, Pushkar was seen seated in the visitors’ gallery just above the ruling benches. That made it difficult for her to see her articulate-husband speaking because the former minister’s seat is shadowed by that part of the gallery.

But Pushkar was keen and wanted to see Tharoor speaking.

She called some parliament staffers and requested them to change her seat. She was then allowed to shift to the other side of the gallery above the opposition benches.

That gave her a perfect view of her husband, whom she watched and heard in rapt attention.

Tharoor resigned as minister of state for external affairs in April last year following allegations that he had misused his office to get shares in the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket franchise of Cochin, in which Sunanda was given a sweat equity. Tharoor denied the charges.

The two married in August 2010.
