Students demand restoration of Allahabad University polls
November 1st, 2010 - 10:59 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Nov 1 (IANS) Several students of Allahabad University blocked roads and clashed with the police Monday to demand restoration of the varsity’s student body polls.
The students assembled opposite the district magistrate’s office in Colonelganj area of Allahabad, some 200 km from Lucknow, and tried to force their way in.
“We tried our best to calm down the students, but as they refused to listen, we had no other other option than using mild force,” deputy superintendent of police S.D. Shukla said.
The students clashed with the police and also tried to target public and private vehicles in the area. The police detained five students.
Allahabad University’s student body polls were last held in November 2005.
