Stranded Kalam leaves for Rourkela by train (Lead)
January 16th, 2010 - 1:09 am ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Jan 15 (IANS) Former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who was stranded for hours Friday in Bhubaneswar as his chopper could not take off due to inclement weather, finally left the Orissa capital by train late in the night.
Kalam left for Rourkela by the Tapaswini Express, which left Bhubaneswar at about 10.45 p.m.
He is scheduled to reach Rourkela Friday to inaugurate a technology incubation centre at the National Institute of Technology, Rourkela.
His chopper could not take off in the afternoon from Bhubaneswar Airport due to “low visibility”.
As per the official schedule, Kalam is to lay the foundation stone of a technology incubation centre at the NIT, Rourkela. In the evening he is to interact with students of Sundergarh District Science Exhibition and meet the guest members at NIT, Rourkela.
The former president is also to receive D.Sc. from the NIT at the 7th Convocation ceremony Saturday.
