New Delhi, June 21 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will hold a special meeting of the union cabinet Friday that will consider the recommendations of the ministerial panel on the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, Home Minister P. Chidambaram said Monday.
Chidambaram, who heads the Group of Ministers (GoM) on the Bhopal disaster, said the panel has made “significant recommendations” including the extradition of Warren Anderson, who was Union Carbide boss in 1984 when the toxic gas leak from its pesticide plant killed and maimed thousands.
“The report will be considered by the cabinet. The prime minister indicated to me yesterday that he would hold a special cabinet meeting on Friday, June 25, to consider the report of the GoM,” Chidambaram told reporters before the recommendations were submitted to Manmohan Singh.
The home minister said the panel has looked into the legal options available with the Indian government on Anderson’s extradition.
