The romantic liaison with the mistress had also invited an official rebuke from state lawmakers for embarrassing the state.

At the news conference, Sanford granted that he owes the public a declaration that he is secure and in contact with his workplace. Nonetheless, he mentioned that the media is fixated with his private life.

Sanford did not talk about his mistress, Maria Belen Chapur of Argentina, by name when he was queried about the weekend outing out of his state.
