South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford has come out with confessions of his illicit affair with a mysterious woman from Buenos Aires, Argentina. The reason for his recent disappearing act has finally come to light with the Gov stating that he had not actually been trekking the Appalachian trail, but was cruising in Argentina with his mistress. After returning from the trip, the Republican Governor came out clean in the public. He said that he gone in search of a more exotic rejuvenating trip than the Appalachian trip had to offer.

He admitted that the affair had started all too innocently, with him getting in a conversation with a woman almost 8 years ago. At that point of time, the woman was in a vulnerable state because of the separation from her husband. Sanford had advised her to patch up with her husband and make her marriage for the sake of her two sons. After that initial exchange, the two had kept in touch through e- mails, and their friendship had flourished over the past 8 years, across the great distance.

“The State” newspaper had obtained excerpts of the e-mails that had been exchanged between the two lovers way back in the month of December, last year. The woman’s name is said to be Maria. The newspaper had however removed the woman’s name, her e-mail address and the names of her two sons from all posts. The Governor’s wife Jenny Sanford has issued a lengthy statement saying that she had asked Mark Sanford to leave their house almost two weeks ago so that she is able to, in her own words, “maintain my dignity, self respect and basic sense of right and wrong.”
