Shimla, June 15 (IANS) Almost a month after the Congress returned to power with increased strength in the Lok Sabha polls this year, party president Sonia Gandhi is in a holiday mood.
She has taken a few days off and is holidaying here with her daughter Priyanka Vadra, who aggressively campaigned for her brother Rahul Gandhi in his constituency Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, and her grandchildren.
Gandhi and her family landed at the Kalyani helipad near here Sunday and visited Charabra where Priyanka’s cottage is being constructed, an official said here Monday.
After inspecting the construction work for about half-an-hour, the family left for Wildflower Hall, an Oberoi Group’s luxury resort on the outskirts of Shimla. “They spent entire Sunday in the resort,” the official said.
The official added that the Gandhi family is expected to stay here till Tuesday.
“Gandhi and Priyanka are frequent visitors here during summers. Every time the Congress chief prefers to keep her visit as a private affair,” the official said.
State Congress president Kaul Singh Thakur told IANS: “We have no information regarding the visit of party president (Gandhi).”
Local Congress leader Kehar Singh Khachi, who has been supervising the construction of Priyanka’s house, said: “The cottage will be complete by the end of this year.”
Congress won 206 seats emerging as the single-largest party this general elections to once again form a United Progressive Alliance government in New Delhi.
