June 28, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Rory Reid, who is the nominee of the Democratic Party in the race for ‘Nevada governor’, is not using his surname during the campaigns. Rory is the son of Harry Reid, the senior United States Senator from Nevada.

Rory’s father is one of the most powerful men in the country but does not reflect in his campaigns. He is willingly trying to maintain a distance from his father Harry Reid.

The advertisement campaigns of the Rory reads, ‘Rory 2010’ and the releases of the campaign addresses him as Rory on second reference. In fact, his website does not mention the name of Harry Rory on his biography. The avoidance of his surname in the campaigns, reflects how mess the elections has turned.

Other news hitting the headlines is the Harry Reid’s run for a fifth Senate term against Sharron Angle. The Republicans are happy with the thought of removing the man from the Senator’s seat, whom they believe to be wrong with Washington.

The Nevada voters are angry with the increasing unemployment and bankruptcies, which is likely to go against Harry Reid.

On this front, Rory stated that the family ties never come on the way of selecting Nevada’s next chief executive. He said, “I am sure, all the people have their own opinion about my father. Now, the campaign is all about to create an opinion about me.”

Rory Reid is now serving as a member of the Clark County Commission. He will be facing the Republican Brian Sandoval in November.

Jahan Wilcox, the Republican National Committee spokesman said, “If the failed record of Harry Reid has not affected the Nevadans then they will be supporting Rory.”

On the other hand, Rory said that the voters never wanted to talk about his father and the republican’s are just trying to distract the public. Rory added, “They were never talking about my genealogy. They were concerned about the issues like if the next governor can create more jobs and the schools are made better. Ultimately, the people will vote me on the basis if I can make their life better.

Until now, the father and son duo has not been seen campaigning together.
