Somnath has breached party discipline: Biman BoseJuly 23rd, 2008 - 6:57 pm ICT by IANS
Kolkata, July 23 (IANS) Launching a direct attack on Lok Sabha speaker Somnath Chatterjee, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) West Bengal secretary Biman Bose Wednesday accused Chatterjee of breaching party discipline by not resigning from the post. “Somnath Chattterjee has breached the party’s disciplines,” Bose told reporters here at the CPI-M state headquarters on Alimuddin Street.
He said every CPI-M cadre has to abide by the party guidelines.
Queried about the issue of Somnath Chatterjee’s resignation from the Lok Sabha, Bose earlier said no CPI-M MP could hold the chair since the left parties withdrew support from the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
“We were supporting the Congress-led UPA alliance at the Centre from outside. But now when we are opposing the government, our MP should not be in the speaker’s chair,” Bose said in a press conference Tuesday evening.
The four Left parties, which are constituents of the state’s ruling Left Front - Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Communist Party of India (CPI), Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) - withdrew support from the Manmohan Singh government protesting its decision to go ahead with the India-US nuclear deal.
The UPA, however, sailed through the Lok Sabha trust vote Tuesday by 19 votes.
