Some prominent winners

New Delhi, May 13 (IANS) Some of the prominent candidates who emerged victorious Friday in the 2011 assembly elections.

- Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achutanandan (LDF) won from the Malampuzha constituency in Palakad district of Kerala by more than 17,000 votes, one of the highest majorities in the election.

- Tamil Nadu’s outgoing chief minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi won from Thiruvarur, defeating his AIADMK rival Rajendran by 50,000 votes.

- AIDMK leader J. Jayalalitha won by a margin of over 41,000 votes from Srirangam.

- Renowned singer Anup Ghoshal of Trinamool Congress won by 43,193 votes in Hooghly district’s Uttarpara constituency against Left candidate Sruthinath Praharaj.

- Theatre artist Bratya Basu of Trinamool Congress won from Dum Dum in West Bengal against Housing Minister and CPI-M’s star campaigner Gautam Deb

- Jaganmohan Reddy of YSR Congress party won the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat in Andhra Pradesh with an unprecedented majority of 5.13 lakh votes

- Jaganmohan Reddy’s mother Y.S. Vijayalaxmi won the Pulivendula assembly seat in the state
