Washington, May 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Solicitor General of United States Elena Kagan is reportedly all set to succeed Justice John Paul Stevens as she has emerged as the front runner to be nominated in the Supreme Court. As per the reports that have surfaced, reliable sources in the political circles have stated that Elena Kagan has been elected by United States President Barack Obama as the second nominee in the U.S. Supreme Court.
50 year old Elena Kagan, who is regarded as one of the most renowned legal scholars of the nation, would be the fourth woman to serve the Supreme Court if her nomination receives the approval of the Senate. At the same time, Elena Kagan’s nomination would also be significant as this would be the first time that three women would be a part of the nine member court at the same occasion. A source close to the White House has revealed to news sources that the selection of the Elena Kagan to serve in the U.S. Supreme Court would be announced later today. The U.S. Solicitor General, who is also President Barack Obama’s top Supreme Court attorney would be first member of the court who has not previously served as a lower court judge and would also be the youngest member of the court.
In the meanwhile, the selection of Elena Kagan by President Barack Obama is being perceived by many observers as the president’s attempt to find someone out of the so-called ‘judicial monastery’ who has the ability to stay strong at her views in the wake of more conservative justices.
