June 4th, 2011 - 11:16 pm ICT by IANSKolkata, June 4 (IANS) At least four human skeletons and many pieces of bones were found buried near the house of a heavyweight Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader in West Bengal’s West Midnapore district Saturday, police said.
“Four human skeletons, three parts of human skeletons and 25 pieces of bones were dug out from Benechpara village near Garbeta in the district. The site was within half a kilometre from CPI-M leader Sushanta Ghosh’s house,” a senior police officer said.
According to the officer, a CPI-M activist Madan Santra Saturday morning reportedly confessed before the villagers that years ago, several people were killed and buried near Ghosh’s house.
The villagers started digging and found the skeletons and some pieces of cloth, after which they called they police.
The villagers of Palasia and Anandapur areas claimed the skeletons were of their relatives, who were Trinamool Congress supporters and went missing in September 2002.
West Midnapore Police Superintendent Praveen Tripathi said: “An investigation has been initiated. We are considering all the possibilities, including the allegations of the villagers.”
DNA tests of the skeletons will be conducted to identify them, Tripathi told IANS over phone.
