Six Gujarat municipal corporations go to polls Oct 10
September 10th, 2010 - 12:17 am ICT by IANSGandhinagar, Sep 9 (IANS) The Gujarat Election Commission Thursday announced that polls to six municipal corporations in the state will be held Oct 10.
The announcement covers key municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar. The model code of conduct stands enforced with immediate effect.
The filling of nominations in all the six municipal corporations will begin Sep 20 and continue till Sep 25. The scrutiny of the nominations will take place Sep 27 and Sep 28 will be the last date of withdrawal.
The counting of votes would be taken up Oct 12, a poll panel announcement said.
The spokesperson for the commission said 88 lakh voters can exercise their right to franchise. The elections would be conducted through the electronic voting machines.
