Shanti Bhushan-Amar Singh CD not doctored: Police

New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) A controversial CD purportedly containing a conversation between Team Anna’s senior member Shanti Bhushan, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and former SP leader Amar Singh is original and not doctored, Delhi Police said Tuesday.
Delhi Police have stated this in their closure report on the complaint filed by Shanti Bhushan’s son and senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan, who alleged that the CD was doctored.
In the conversation, Shanti Bhushan allegedly promises Mulayam Singh that Prashant Bhushan will ‘fix’ a judge for a price.
“There is no tampering of the CD and we have filed a closure report,” Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat told IANS.
“Since the opinions given by the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL), Delhi, and the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) are similar, and the CERT-In, having expertise in information technology, confirms the opinion of CFSL Delhi, there is no reason to disbelieve these two reports,” Delhi Police said in a report placed before Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Vinod Yadav.
Reacting to the police investigation report, Prashant Bhushan told reporters: “It’s a conspiracy by Delhi Police, government and a section of CFSL officials to defame us.”
The CD was circulated to all media offices in April after anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare ended his fast undertaken to press his demand for a strong Lokpal. Shanti Bhushan, a former law minister, was named co-chair of the joint committee to draft the Lokpal bill.
Shanti Bhushan had termed the CD a forgery and an attempt to malign him and lodged a complaint with Delhi Police under Indian Penal Code’s (IPC) Section 469 (forgery to hurt one’s reputation).
Delhi Police sent the CD to the CFSL at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office here, and afterwards to CFSL-Chandigarh for a cross-check.
A forensic test at a Hyderabad-based private lab, Truth Labs, by Bhushan claimed that the disc was doctored.
The Bhushans in April got forensic analysis of the CD done by US expert George Papcun and Truth Labs and claimed that the disc has multiple gaps and signs of electronic editing at critical places.
They alleged this showed an “ominous conspiracy with the blessings of many powerful people”, including corporates and politicians, to derail judicial proceedings.
