Seven Maoists arrested in Chhattisgarh
January 6th, 2011 - 11:26 pm ICT by IANSRaipur, Jan 6 (IANS) Seven male cadres of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were arrested Thursday in Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, police said.The arrests were made from three different jungle bases of Maoists in Bijapur district, about 450 km south from Raipur.
“The Maoists who are mainly the village-level cadres were apprehended during search operations, they had been involved in providing logistic support to seniors cadres for striking a few deadly attacks on civilians and forces,” a senior official here at police headquarters told IANS.
The sprawling 40,000 sq km Bastar region is considered the nerve centre of Maoist militants in India since late 1980s with over a thousand persons killed there in leftist violence in the past one decade.
