Senator Harry Reid Expresses Apology To President Obama For Racist Comments

Washington, Jan 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In what is being perceived as an extensive damage control action, Nevada Senator Harry Reid has expressed his apologies to United States President Barack Obama for the controversial comments that he made during the 2008 presidential campaign about the African-American President. The comments that were made by the Senator about Barack Obama has been revealed in a new book about the 2008 presidential campaign.
The book quotes the Nevada Senator saying that, then Senator Barack Obama had more chances of winning since he was “light skinned” and “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.” In a statement that has been released by Harry Reid, the Nevada Senator has added that he regrets the words that he had used and at the same time, expressed his deep felt apologies to anybody who might have been offended by the improper comments. Moreover, he has stressed that he has been a proud supporter of Barack Obama throughout the campaign.
While reacting to the apology offered by the Democrat leader, President Barack Obama released a statement in which he said that Harry Reid called him to apologize for the ‘unfortunate’ comments and added that he had accepted the apology. Moreover, the U.S. President also reiterated his faith in the Nevada Senator’s leadership abilities and implied that he has not taken any offense to the comments made by the Democrat, as he has known the Senator for years.
The comments made by Senate majority leader has been reported in the new book ‘Game Change’ has been penned by journalists by Mark Halperin of Times Magazine and John Heilemann of New York magazine.
