Secretary of State Clinton to travel to Latin America

02-15-hillary_full_380 WASHINGTON D.C. (BNO NEWS) – U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will travel to Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Costa Rica and Guatemala from February 28 to March 5, Philip J. Crowley, Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs announced on Wednesday.

Secretary Clinton will conduct a series of visits with high ranking officials to discuss issues of mutual interest in each country. Last year, Secretary Clinton visited three Latin American countries: Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador.

In Uruguay, Secretary Clinton will be attending President Mujica’s inauguration on March 1. She will visit Santiago, Chile, where she will meet President Bachelet and President-elect Piñera. On March 3, Secretary Clinton will be meeting with President Lula and Foreign Minister Amorim in Brasilia. The next day in Costa Rica, Secretary Clinton will be a keynote speaker at the Pathways to Prosperity in the Americas Ministerial Meeting and will meet separately with President Oscar Arias and President-elect Laura Chinchilla. Finally in Guatemala, a meeting with leaders of Central American countries and the Dominican Republic is being planned and has to be confirmed yet.
