Secretary of Education - Arne Duncan announces $100 million in grants
October 2nd, 2010 - 1:53 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattOct 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has announced $100 million in grants. The goal of these grants would be to support and aid all the local initiatives, which would in turn improve the standard of the high schools. The grant would also help to improve the academic performance of the students in these high schools.
Secretary of Education - Arne Duncan said that, “These grants will help our local communities and states in working towards President Obama’s goal of once again having the highest college completion rate in the world by the end of the decade. To achieve this goal, high schools must ensure more students graduate and are prepared for success in college and careers.”
These grants would be distributed under the Smaller Learning Communities program. And under the umbrella of this innovative program, 28 high schools would be covered and they would in turn receive a lump sum grant of a whooping $52.2 million.
Arne Duncan wants that the grant would be used to create a better learning environment for the students in all these high schools. And this would in turn help them to hone their skills further and get better grades too.
