palin resignationAlaska Governor Sarah Palin has shocked the people of Alaska as well as the world with the her announcement some days ago that she is going to resign from the Governor’s office on July 26, 2009. The CBS News network describes her speech as “rambling and sometimes confusing”. In her speech she highlights some details regarding her decisions.

Palin started off with the, “Hi Alaska, I appreciate speaking directly to you, the people I serve, as your Governor. People who know me now that besides faith and family, nothings more important to me than our beloved Alaska. Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine.”

After such a flawless beginning, Governor Palin had gone on to state some of the achievements that her administration has secured on behalf on the Alaskan residents in its first term itself, like having created a petroleum integrity office to oversee safe development, ushering in the bi-partisan Ethics Reform and such other significant works.

The Governor then says that, “So I chose, for my State and my family more “freedom” to progress, all the way around.. so that Alaska may progress. I will not seek re-election as Governor.”

Comments about Palin’s decision has been flying around large with many willing to be vocal about their expressions. According to former vice-presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro, the political gamble made by Palin is not a very wise one; going by the fact that the Alaskan Governor chose not to complete her term. Not contesting for a re-election is quite a different matter.

Alaska GOP Senator Lisa Murkowski said,”I am deeply disappointed that the governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded.”
