Sangma wanted to ’sing and dance’ in Goa

Panaji, July 10 (IANS) Presidential candidate Purno Sangma said Tuesday he wanted to “sing and dance” in Goa, but the pressing campaign schedule did not give him time for this in the fun-loving state.
“Like in the northeast, people in Goa do not talk. They sing. They do not walk. They dance,” Sangma said, quoting a friend’s description of Goa and the northeastern states.
“I wish we had time to do that, but I have to be in Lucknow tomorrow at 11,” Sangma said.
“I have a special liking for Goa. The culture and life of people in Goa and the north east is similar. We have a special affinity,” he said.
Sangma was speaking to reporters here as part of his nationwide tour to garner support for his bid at presidency.
Sangma, who has been supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party and several other parties, is taking on the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate Pranab Mukherjee.
