SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) – A man of San Francisco, California was charged on Thursday with making harassing and threatening telephone calls to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello announced.

Gregory Lee Giusti, 48, allegedly made at least 48 phone calls to the San Francisco and Washington D.C. offices of Pelosi between February 6 to March 25. Giusti threatened to harm House Speaker Pelosi if she voted in favor of the Health Care bill, which he did.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) released two recorded messages from Giusti where he used vulgar and crude language.

“If you pass this freaking health care plan don’t bother coming back to California cause you ain’t gonna have a place to live,” said Giusti in one of the recorded phone messages.

“When someone crosses the line from engaging in legitimate protest to making threats to do harm, the government will act to stop those threats from being carried out and to bring those responsible for making them to justice,” said U.S. Attorney Russoniello.

Giusti was denied his request to be released to a halfway house. In addition prosecutors are looking at the possibility that the defendant suffers from bipolar disorder and may be receiving treatment if confirmed.

The defendant faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison and a fine of $250,000 for the count of making harassing and threatening telephone calls.
