Samajwadi Party workers sprayed with drain water
July 8th, 2010 - 9:15 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, July 8 (IANS) The Samajwadi Party Thursday alleged that its workers were sprayed with drain water during a demonstration here earlier in the week to protest the hike in fuel prices.
“Chief Minister Mayawati’s officials sprayed dirty drain water on Samajwadi Party workers staging the demonstration (on Monday),” party general secretary Shiv Pal Yadav said here.
Yadav gave a memorandum in this regard to Governor B.L. Joshi seeking suitable action against the state government.
Addressing a press conference, Yadav said, “Not only me but all other party leaders including our state president Akhilesh Yadav and MPs felt the foul smell in the water sprayed on us with the fire brigade water cannons.”
“Many of us have developed itches on our bodies,” he claimed.
Yadav, who is the younger brother of party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, took exception to the raw deal meted out to party leaders during their detention at the police lines.
“Not only was there no arrangement for toilets, the administration had not even cared to arrange for tea or water for us while we were kept under detention at the Lucknow district police lines,” he alleged.
