Samajwadi Party, CPI-M protest oil price hikeFebruary 18th, 2008 - 10:31 pm ICT by admin
Mumbai, Feb 18 (IANS) The Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Monday afternoon staged a protest here against the hike in diesel and petrol prices. Around 1,000 activists of SP and CPI-M gathered at the Azad Maidan ground in south Mumbai shouting slogans against the central government and Petroleum Minister Murli Deora.
SP chief general secretary Shyamsunder Arya, who led the protest, accused the government of joining hands with the American government and the petroleum companies to get more tax from the price hike.
“The Congress party needs funds for the upcoming elections which are provided by the petroleum companies. So, Congress is forced to keep the petroleum companies happy,” he claimed.
