Salman Khurshid, DPS urged to mutually settle row
September 19th, 2008 - 9:18 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 19 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Friday asked Congress leader Salman Khurshid and the Delhi Public School (DPS) Society to resolve their expulsion row by mutual consent.Justice Hima Kohli, while hearing a petition filed by Khurshid challenging his expulsion from the DPS Society, asked the two parties to resolve the issue and reply to the court by Oct 31.
Khurshid had Sep 10 filed a petition challenging his expulsion from the society after he raised his voice against its alleged irregularities.
The Congress leader, who was expelled from the society Sep 1 for allegedly objecting to its style of functioning, has alleged that it was indulging in commercialisation of education.
He said that the society management has been collecting money from DPS schools in the name of licence and signing fees, which goes against the norms of the Delhi Education Act.
He alleged that the society was collecting between Rs.500,000 and Rs.1 million from franchisees for using the society’s name and logo and for the agreement to run the school.
The society expelled Khurshid for indulging in “anti-DPS activities”. In his petition, Khurshid has alleged that since he raised his voice against the commercialization of education, it was termed as “anti-DPS” activity by the society.
Khurshid, a DPS alumnus, has been a member of the society since 1984.
