Nawaz Sharif Islamabad, March 16 (Xinhua) The Pakistan government will reinstate all the deposed judges including ex-chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on March 21, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said Monday.
“I announce the restoration of all deposed judges including Iftikhar Chaudhry according to a promise made by the president of Pakistan and myself,” Gilani said.

The government’s decision came the same day when the “long march” led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Nawaz Sharif is due to arrive in Islamabad for a sit-in to urge the government to restore the judges sacked in 2007.

The lawyers and political activists had kicked off their “long march” March 12.

Some 60 Supreme Court and High Court judges were sacked in November 2007 when then-president Pervez Musharraf declared a state of emergency.
