June 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the war in Afghanistan in a very crucial moment, and the entire world seemingly involved in the “Blame Game” it seems a very bad time for the President of the United States to feel the need to issue a summons for a general in charge of thousands of soldiers, who look up to him for leadership.
After an article was posted in Rolling Stones magazine in which McChrystal was rumored to have shown insubordination by speaking against the president and his aides however, that is just what President Obama did.
President Obama is said to be waiting for an explanation from General Stanley McChrystal for the “biting remarks” which were posted in the article entitled ‘The Runaway General’. Following to the summons from Obama for McChrystal to leave the battlefield and come to Washington to face the president, two military officials stated anonymously that McChrystal is prepared to retire from his position. If he does, it will be up to the president himself whether or not he accepts the resignation.
The article in question actually had very few comments which were from McCrystal himself, with most of the quotes by the author, Michael Hastings, cited as from “an unnamed aide”, and “unknown sources”. The entire article can be read here . Some argue that McChrystal’s “verbal preening” in front of a freelance reporter, and his failure to stop his aides from their snide remarks places his job in jeopardy and feel that he should go.
Others feel that although the comments made were inappropriate considering General McChrystal’s position, the almost one hundred thousand U.S Personnel who are serving in the war in Afghanistan deserve to have the best military commander available, and that the general should not be removed from the war over “sticks and stones thrown by Rolling Stones.”
