Chandigarh, May 13 (IANS) Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) activists Thursday staged a protest outside Chandigarh Press Club while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Nitin Gadkari was addressing reporters inside its premises.
Led by the party’s Chandigarh unit president Ravinder Krishan, nearly 30 members of RJD gathered at the gates of the club to condemn the “unparliamentary remarks” used by Gadkari for RJD leader Lalu Prasad, while addressing a rally here Wednesday.
Immediately after the start of the protest, Gadkari hastily left the venue. Police moved in and took control of the situation to prevent any violence.
Krishnan told reporters that the party strongly condemned the language used by Gadkari. “We cannot tolerate this, he has hit at the sentiments of thousands of Yadavs residing here,” he said.
“We want a public apology from Gadkari and till then we would not allow him to participate in any function in Chandigarh,” he added.
“If on one side Congress is ‘politically corrupt’ then on the other BJP is not only politically but also ‘religiously corrupt’. Very soon Nitin Gadkari will prove himself a national disaster for the party,” Krishan added.
Gadkari Wednesday had said that RJD leader Lalu Prasad and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav were like “dogs who lick the feet of the Congress” but later took back his words saying he didn’t mean to be offensive. He maintained that he had just used an idiom and did not intend to use any objectionable language against anybody.
