RJD leader joins Congress
September 20th, 2010 - 11:30 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 20 (IANS) Former union minister of state for agriculture Akhilesh Singh Monday joined the Congress after quitting the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in the run-up to Bihar assembly elections.
Talking to media persons at the Congress office here, Singh said that he had advised RJD leader Lalu Prasad against breaking the tie-up with the Congress ahead of the 2009 Lok Sabha polls but the RJD leader did not heed his suggestion.
Singh, who resigned from RJD last week, said he also had differences with Lalu Prasad over ticket distribution for the assembly polls.
Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Mukul Wasnik, who is incharge of the state, said the party was connecting all social classes in Bihar.
Asked if more leaders will join the Congress, he said that activities were going on that will change the complexion of politics in Bihar.
Wasnik asserted that the Congress will be able to form a government on its own in the state.
Asked if tickets will be given to minorities in ratio of their population in the state, Wasnik said that several factors went into selection of candidates and the party will not go by ratio of population in deciding its nominees.
The Congress is contesting the assembly polls in Bihar on its own.
