Rise above parochial differences, work for others: Sonia GandhiJuly 28th, 2008 - 7:59 pm ICT by IANS
Kurukshetra (Haryana), July 28 (IANS) Congress president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi Monday said that people, especially those in public life, should rise above parochial differences and live for others. “In public life, we are known by what we do for others and not for what we do for ourselves. It is true not just for individuals but also for the society, country and the world,” said Gandhi at the 44th all-India Oriental conference in this town - better known for the historic Mahabharat battle which was fought here.
Gandhi said people in public life should prove that they work for others and not for themselves.
She dwelled on the message from Hindu epic Bhagwad Gita that everyone should work as selflessly as Lord Krishna.
Earlier, the UPA chairperson unveiled a statute of a chariot on which Lord Krishna gave his sermon to a wavering Arjuna before the epic battle of Mahabharata.
The statute is located near the historic Brahmsarovar (pond of Lord Brahma - Hindu god worshipped as the creator of the world).
Haryana Governor A.R. Kidwai and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda were present on the occasion.
