Richard Holbrooke In Critical Condition After Heart Surgery

Dec 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) President Barack Obama Administration’s Special Representative Richard Holbrooke is in critical condition after his surgery, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said in his statement. The 69-year-old U.S. envoy was admitted to George Washington University Hospital after he fell ill at work on Friday.
P.J. Crowley said that the doctors completed the surgery to repair a ‘tear in his aorta’ on Saturday morning but the special envoy is in critical condition now. The spokesperson said that his family has already joined him in George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. The eyewitnesses say that Richard Holbrooke suddenly became ill on Friday and after that he walked out of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s office and checked into the medical personnel’s office for check up. He was immediately rushed to the hospital.
Richard Holbrooke, the US representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan was expected to appear on the public presentation of President Barack Obama’s Afghanistan review on Thursday. However, the other aides told a reputed media source that all the groundwork of the review is complete and the release will not be affected by Richard Holbrooke’s absence. President Barack Obama said that he and his wife are praying for the speedy recovery of the US envoy. The media outlets reported that Hillary Clinton has visited him at the hospital on Saturday, after his heart surgery. Richard Holbrooke who is nicknamed as “The Bulldozer”, is well known for his negotiating skills, which was the prime reason for end of war in Bosnia in 1995. His family members reportedly told a reputed media source that Richard Holbrooke had heart related problems in the past.
