Rev. David Wilkerson killed in an accident

Tyler, April 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Rev. David Wilkerson has been killed in an auto accident. The accident also resulted in the hospitalization of his wife who sustained injuries. The 79-year-old who was the founder of Times Square Church died instantly while his wife remains in critical condition.

The church released a statement on late Wednesday announcing the death of the founder. Reports on the Internet that has not been confirmed say the pastor had a head-on collision with a tractor trailer. His wife, Gwen, is currently receiving treatment at the East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, Texas.

Wilkerson is well known for helping several drug addicts overcome their addiction problems. He founded the Teen Challenge in the later part of the 1950s when he read a piece in the 24th of February 1958 edition of the Life magazine. A story about seven gang members who had killed a teenager touched him to establish the center.

Thousands of people are known to have benefited from the Teen Challenge initiative which currently has several offices in various parts of the world. Some of the beneficiaries expressed their condolence to the family after the accident.

He is survived by his wife, four children and 11 grandchildren.
