christine-o-donnell October 20, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The Delaware Senate Candidates Democrat Chris Coons and Republican Christine O’Donnell met at the Widener University’s School of Law for another round of Debate. The topic of the debate slowly went over to the interpretation of the first Amendment and what it implied. At one point of time Chris Coons asserted that the First Amendment has been interpreted by the Supreme court to imply the separation of Church and State. As soon as Coons made his assertion O’Donnell cut into his speech and asked if the Separation of church and state has been mentioned in the First amendment.

At first glance it might seem that we have another Sarah palin to deal with but that’s not true at all. In fact O’Donnell was drawing attention to the fact that the phrase “Separation of Church And state” does not really make an appearance in the first amendment. The political critics were quick to jump to conclusions and labeled O’Donnell as another hockey mom like Sarah palin who shocked the public with her political gaffes in the 2008 campaign.

The video of the debate has already gone viral but anyone who watches the entire length of the clip will understand that O’Donnell has a good idea of what she is talking about. The Republican candidate was simply trying to point out that the actual words “separation of Church and State” do not appear in the First Amendment.

It seems that Christine O’Donnell has made a huge blunder with her verbal gaffes and it will take a lot of effort for the PR team to evade the voter backlash.
